The Mist Covered Mountain

A great tune for a session. It would normally be played in G but I play it in A because it sounds brighter. I play a chromatic triplet in the first part of the tune, E, F, F# on the third string instead of E, A, A. Some use of chromatic notes really adds colour to the banjo sound.
Take note of the G# third string on the sixth fret at the end of the first part.

It is unusual in Irish music to move to the fifth position but it can make for a lovely sound and it is worth practicing to help you learn your way around the fretboard.
Move your left hand up to the A note on the fifth fret, use your first finger to play this note. Play the open E string and continue to play the tune in this position.
Use the open E to give yourself time to slip back down to the first position again to finish the tune.
